September

The beginning of September might be the most exciting time of year.  Going back to school and the start of football season coincide to make it a time for rebirth and new beginnings.  January 1st might mark the start of a new calendar year, but the real new year begins in September.  In January the weather is cold and the gym gets crowded for like a week, but nothing really changes.  In September, I go back to school and meet over a hundred new people that I will be will be working with over the next ten months.  There's new names to pronounce wrong for a while and a new schedule to remember.  I love the summer time for the freedom and the nice weather, but it is nice to get back into a routine.  Learning about new people is interesting because we're all so different, yet very much alike.

The new football season is upon us as well.  I really love football.  Football makes Sundays in the fall the most thrilling day of the week from September to February, and it's a real treat that the Patriots have been so excellent for the past decade.  All the other sports play too many regular season games.  The playoffs are exciting in every sport, but the regular seasons is too long.  Look at these season lengths - basketball 82, hockey 86, and baseball 162.  Football only has 16.  Each football game is critically important.  I think that we love the things we can't get enough of the most.  My only complaint about football is that there isn't more of it.

It's a very fun and exciting time of year and the start of the school year has been great.  The new people seem ready to learn and create a good classroom community.  Working with students that know education is important makes my job much easier, so I'm grateful for that.  The Patriots handled Tennessee fairly easily today, so things are off to a great start all around.
